The One Where We Bought Half a Cow…..

One time, I tried to be Vegan. I was a monster. It didn’t agree with me and as soon as I devoured some scrambled eggs I was a nice person again. Enter now, my doctor told me that as we age, our protein needs increase to maintain our muscle mass. Also with a house full of growing and active kids need protein to keep up their growth! Needless to say eating lean meat is a priority for us and getting quality food with minimal processing is the goal. So we bought half a cow from a Rancher in the Hill Country! If you have the freezer space, it’s really an incredible way to get higher quality meat for a more reasonable price than the grocery store.

When you order beef this way, you are able to specify the fat content for ground meat and how you’d like different portions cut. In the end, we have some many cuts that I’m really not familiar with cooking. Nothig really crazy but I feel super comfortable with a spaghetti sauce with ground beef, tacos, meatloaf or meatballs BUT with so much meat we gotta switch it up more than that.
